TRACY MORGAN: Truck Driver Released on $50K Bail

Posted June 9th, 2014 @ 7:39am

The truck driver charged in the deadly car accident that put Tracy Morgan in critical condition has been released after posting $50,000 bond.

Kevin Roper's Walmart tractor-trailer rear-ended with the limousine bus carrying the comedian and his entourage early Saturday morning on the New Jersey Turnpike. Officials believe Roper was dozing off and didn't see traffic slowing until it was too late.

Tracy's friend and comedy writer, Jimmy McNair, died in the crash, while comedians Harris Stanton and Ardie Fuqua were also injured. As of Sunday Morgan was still listed in critical condition.

Roper was charged with one count of death by auto and four counts of assault by auto.

TRACY MORGAN UPDATE: Undergoes Surgery, "More Responsive" After Car Wreck

Tracy Morgan underwent surgery Sunday to fix a broken leg he suffered in that fatal traffic accident over the weekend.

In a statement, his rep said, "While Tracy remains in critical condition, he has been more responsive today, which is an incredibly encouraging sign."

The comedian sustained a number of injuries -- including a broken leg, a broken femur, a broken nose and several broken ribs. He's expected to stay in the hospital for several weeks. He's currently in the intensive care unit at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in New Brunswick, New Jersey.

Tracy's friend, comedian and friend James "Jimmy Mack" McNair, died in the accident. His two other passengers were injured.
