Miley Cyrus's feel-good VMA story just took a detour to the dark side -- with news that the homeless guy who spoke for her on Sunday night has a warrant out for his arrest.

It turns out that Jesse Helt, who delivered that moving speech about the plight of homeless teens in L.A., ended up in Cali after bailing out of Oregon -- where he's wanted on parole violations stemming from earlier arrests for trespassing and attempted burglary. Court documents reveal a number of strikes on his record -- including skipping a drug test, failing to report to his probation officer and not finishing his community service hours.

He was initially arrested in October 2010 and told the officer that he and a friend tried to break into an apartment because the man who rented it had sold them bad marijuana.
