In addition to the rain that has been falling throughout the state this week, areas of higher elevation have seen abundant snowfall. According to KTLA, many resorts and ski area's scattered throughout the region have reported multiple feet of snowfall within the last few days alone. There is a whopping 165 inches of snow packed at the summit of Mammoth Mountain, making it the "deepest snow among the nation's major ski resorts." Even the main lodge area of the resort houses 85 inches of snow.
KTLA mentioned that Alta Ski Area in Salt Lake City Utah, and Appalachian Ski Mountain in North Carolina have also seen extreme snow depth ranging rom 90 to 124 inches.
“That could be just the beginning, with snow in the forecast every day into mid-January and some models calling for up to 25” of water over the next several weeks,” KTLA obtained from a Mammoth Mountain news release. “General rule of thumb is ten inches of snow to every inch of water.”
Though their measurements do not compare to that of Mammoth Mountain, other resorts throughout the state including Bear Mountain, Boreal Mountain, Heavenly, Kirkwood, Northstar, Snow Valley, and Mountain High, have seen feet upon feet of snow pile up in recent weeks.
