There is a lawsuit that could definitely hurt several Reggaeton artists. We already know artists will do a sample in a heartbeat, but man! This one takes the cake. Jamaican dancehall producers, Steely and Clevie Productions have hit artists with a copyright infringement lawsuit. Some artists being sued are Daddy Yankee, Karol G, Nicky Jam and many more, including a few pop artists like Justin Beiber. According to DancehallMag, Steely & Clevie Productions’ claimed that many these artists illegally used and benefited from elements of their "Fish Market" riddim. The Jamaican dancehall production house originally filed multiple claims before combining their allegations into a single copyright infringement lawsuit. Steely & Clevie’s song was released in 1989, but became more well-known after being used in Shabba Ranks’ track “Dem Bow.” So these Reggaeton artists as well as their producers used the foundation of the beats in many of today's hits. They are suing the record labels as well. This lawsuit is definitely a big one considering all the hits that used Steely & Clevie's elements.
