Kanye West "Slavery is a Choice" FULL Interview

(UPDATE 7:00 a.m. ET): Sources close to Kanye say his slavery comments are a result of him going off his meds. (TMZ)

Kanye West may have finally gone too far for even his most loyal of supporters.

After courting controversy with his political views in the past week, he achieved a new level of public outrage when he showed up at the TMZ offices for an interview on Tuesday afternoon. While talking to Harvey and the gang, Yeezy said, “When you hear about slavery for 400 years… for 400 years? That sounds like a choice?”

While the interviewers appeared momentarily stunned, TMZ Sports reporter Van Lathan called Kanye out. He told ‘Ye, “While you are making music and being an artist and living the life that you’ve earned by being a genius, the rest of us in society have to deal with these threats to our lives… I’m disappointed, I’m appalled, and brother, I am unbelievably hurt by the fact that you have morphed into something to me, that’s not real.”

Later on Twitter, Kanye attempted to clarify. He wrote, “Of course I know that slaves did not get shackled and put on a boat by free will. My point is for us to have stayed in that position even though the numbers were on our side means that were mentally enslaved.”

He summed up the swell of public criticism against him as, “Once again I am being attacked for presenting new ideas.”
