This week has been all about Nipsey Hussle. Here's a roundup of the latest news and developments all about our guy Nip:
Reports thatJay-Z’s Roc Nation has set up a trust fund for Nipsey Hussle’s kids are false. The rumor seemed credible to many because of the role Jay has played in helping artists and their families, like when he gave Lil Wayne money to pay back taxes or when he hired a top immigration attorney for 21 Savage.
Nipsey's family is trying to find a place for his memorial service that can accommodate the many fans who want to pay their final respects. They’ve even turned down some 2000-seat venues. Some of the venues still in the running include the The Forum in Inglewood and the Staples Center, where Michael Jackson’s funeral was held.
Congresswoman Karen Bass plans to head “to the House floor next week to formally enter Nipsey Hussle’s contributions to South Los Angeles into the Congressional Record, where it will be a part of United States history forever.” She says the rapper “was a proponent of community development at the real estate and intellectual level…[who] was all about empowerment, specifically when it came to the economic opportunity in South L.A.”
A Change.org petition seeking to have the intersection of Crenshaw and Slauson in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Los Angeles renamed to Nipsey Hussle Way has attracted over 415,000 signatures, and counting.
A mural dedicated to Nipsey Hussle has popped up in Hartford, Connecticut, showing that the Crenshaw rapper’s reach extended far beyond his own ‘hood.
