An elementary school student in Illinois may not be invited to anymore field trips to the zoo after he killed a flamingo.
Officials at the Miller Park Zoo in Bloomington say the young child child was throwing rocks into the exotic bird exhibit. One of the rocks was thrown hard enough to break a flamingo's leg. The break was so severe that vets made the decision to euthanize the bird.
A representative with the zoo says it is communicating with the parents to make sure the child understands how serious the incident was and learns from this experience. The zoo superintendent Jay Tetzloffsays, "This was a truly unfortunate accident, and we are working with the juvenile’s family to move forward." (The Pantagraph)
