Frozen Shrimp Products RECALLED Due To Salmonella

If you love shrimp the way I do, you should know that last Friday, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced a recall of frozen shrimp products produced by Avanti Frozen Foods. According to the notice, some of the brands recalled include Big River, 365, Seacove, Ahold, Censea, First Street, Meijer and others. The notice states:

“Avanti Frozen Foods Pvt. Ltd, is voluntarily expanding a prior recall issued on June 25, 2021 to include certain consignments of various sizes of frozen cooked, peeled, deveined, shrimp (with some packaged with cocktail sauce) sold in various unit sizes, because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. The frozen shrimp products were distributed nationwide from November 2020 to May 2021”

According to USA Today, there were nine reports of Salmonella-related illness connected to the products. The company says it “has been initiated out of an abundance of precaution and will cover a large amount of product that has not been associated with any illness.” Salmonella infection can cause a person to experience various bodily issues, including nausea, fever, diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal pain and more.
