A submarine that takes tourists on tours of the wreck of the Titanic went missing on Sunday, leading to a search-and-rescue operation in the mid-Atlantic Ocean, 900 miles east of Cape Cod, Massachusetts.
According to the Coast Guard, the small sub lost contact about an hour-and-45-minutes into its mission. The tour company OceanGate said that it is doing everything possible to rescue the five people who are onboard the sub.
Among those missing is Hamish Harding, a 58-year-old British billionaire, according to his family.
The vessel reportedly has a four-day supply of emergency oxygen. On Monday U.S. Coast Guard Rear Admiral John Mauger said, “We anticipate there is somewhere between 70 and the full 96 hours available at this point.” (BBC)
