Last month, Brayden Morton of British Columbia was working from home when he saw that someone had broken into his yard and stolen his 3 year old Chinese Shar-pei, Darla. They sped off in a truck..Brayden started running after them but it was over. They were gone. He couldn’t believe what had just happened. The police posted a news release that same day asking for help but Brayden decided to do what anyone else would do..he turned to social media for help offering a $5000 reward.
Responses started flooding in! Brayden had like 500 messages to rummage through when one day he received a call from a woman crying on the other end and he knew right away..this is the thief. She agreed to meet at a nearby gas station, so with the reward money Brayden headed out. After being reunited with Darla he noticed 20 year old woman standing in front him was a fentanyl addict..and he knew because he himself was a recovering addict since 2015! They talked for like an hour..sharing each others stories..she revealed that she had initially planned to sell Darla online but she just couldn’t live with herself, she was also a dog lover and just couldn't do it, so that’s why she returned her. She was crying her eyes out..Brayden didn’t want to call the police..and he low-key didn’t want to give her the reward money either because he knew he’d hear about her dead a day or two later..instead..Brayden took the reward money AND SENT HER TO REHAB. The woman accepted his offer..checked herself into a 90 day program..the rehab centers executive director said that Brayden is going to support her until they get her funding into place. Brayden saw himself in this woman and knew she needed help. He hopes she can pass on his gift to someone else in need one day.
