ZENDAYA COLEMAN: Drops Out of Aaliyah Bio-Pic

Zendaya Coleman explained at Sunday's BET Awards why she dropped out of the Aaliyah bio-pic.

Initially TMZ said it was because of negative reaction from the late singer's family. But the 17-year-old Disney star said she was concerned about the quality of the Lifetime movie. On the red carpet, she told MTV News, 'I just felt the project wasn’t 100 percent there. I feel [that] production wise everything just felt a little rushed."

She added, "It’s someone that I honor and I respect so much, it has to be 128 percent, especially for all her fans, including myself. I didn’t feel like it was all the way there, so I didn’t want to do that. And when the time comes when it’s done right and it’s 100 percent, by all means, I will be the first person there ready to go."

Production is currently on hold, though it's unclear if they plan to cease production on the movie altogether. Shooting was scheduled to begin this summer.

I originally grew up in Southern California but Fresno quickly started to feel like home to me after moving here to go to school. It was during my days at Reedley Community College where I landed an internship with B95 that eventually turned into me doing mid-days and The Juice Crew Morning Show! Growing up, my dad always told us that music can take you to a better place. Although he was talking about Latin music, I felt the same about Hip-Hop and R&B. My advice to listeners is this: Stay up, stay positive, and remember that if you want to be successful, you have to put yourself out there!
